Embroidery with Ink: Scenery and Perception

 

Drawing inspiration from contemporary individuals' landscape and diasporic experiences, my work centers on cultivating awareness and fostering new perspectives. By hybridizing traditional landscape painting with modern elements, I aim to present a fresh outlook on the interplay between scenery and reflective thought.

In my art, I weave monochrome worlds, fusing scenery and memories. My creative process is marked by meticulous, almost compulsive repetition—a ritual of craftsmanship and dedication. Grounded in intuition, it possesses the precision of a printer's hand. Moreover, I blend the innate qualities of materials with the skill to create a harmonious visual language, continuously exploring self and fusing abstraction with memories. 

 

My journey is one of constant self-reflection, an ongoing exploration of textiles, patterns, and landscapes, aiming to unite the abstract and the nostalgic in a compelling synthesis of memory and artistry. Drawing is pivotal in my practice, representing the essence of human creativity and our connection with the natural world. Exploring the material surface and structure of the weft and weave of linen and closely observing surface tension are powerful expressions of interest in perception and space.

 

Much of my work explores the notion that what we consider truth depends on how we look at it. For me, this becomes an act of preservation, recording the intricate intricacies of perspective by surroundings. The subjective nature of visual experience urges us to interrogate our own perspectives and engage critically with the images that surround us (Berger, 1972). By cultivating self-awareness and contextualizing interpretation, we can begin to unravel the complexities of visual representation and develop a deeper understanding of the world around us.
